POTR #16 The Perfect Doctor

PEACE ON THE ROAD
The Perfect Doctor

Just a quick update as to our travels. We are now in Freehold, NJ. It is about forty miles from New York City. I cannot be sure but I think we will go into the city one of these days. We will be here for a week, and then we will move on north. I want to go into Maine and into Canada. In about four to six weeks we want to be in Rochester, NY. We will see family and friends for a while there.

SANDY HOOK LIGHTHOUSE AND KEEPERS RESIDENCE

As in most places we try to visit the lighthouses and there are several near here. Some we can get to, and some that require a boat to reach. Two days ago we visited the oldest operating lighthouse in the United States. It was built in 1764 by a group that represented the shipping companies. They charged 3 pence per ton of merchandise that went into or out of the New York Harbor. I have been unable to translate that into modern money as related to the size of the ships. During the Revolution the Continental Army tried to blow up the lighthouse to prevent the British utilizing the guidance of the light. However it was built it so well that they failed to blow it up, so it was in the British the entire war. After about a hundred years of operation they added three foot of brick to the interior diameter. It has the thickest walls of any lighthouse we have been in so far.

Back during the time that people were crossing the Mississippi and going to the new lands in the west there was a saying, "They Saw The Elephant." People that SAW the elephant were people that got to a point and turned back or stopped their travels and settled before they reached the destination to which they started. We Have Seen The Elephant! In fact we have seen TWO elephants. And we saw one of them paint a picture. However since we are not traveling in a covered wagon, not exactly, and we are still east of the Mississippi, we are not going to stop but we will continue our trip to somewhere. Maybe not having a destination in mind aids us too. There is some sort of animal show here in the campground we are staying at. They were brought for the birthday party of the owners son, and they will be here for all the time we will be here. They have two elephants and two camels. The pens, if they can be called that, are about a hundred foot from our Vectra. The pens are simply a small rope strung around on very small posts. The pens would not slow down a baby calf let alone any of the full-grown animals, if they decided to move.

THIS IS TINA "PAINTING" A PICTURE

Today we had gone to the town of Washington Crossing, PA, and right across the Delaware River to Washington Crossing, NJ. It was a very interesting place. One of the things that impresses me in this country is the amount of foliage that grows everywhere. It is not uncommon to drive down a road and not be able to see the traffic going the other direction because of trees that have been left between the two sides of the road.

We were headed home when we say a sign to the perfect Doctors office. This is a place that should be able to cure one of the biggest problems that so many of us seem to have.

OFFICE OF THE PERFECT DOCTOR

I figure that here is a place that you should be able to have your foot removed from your mouth. I would have spent a fortune here in the past.
