POTR #1 First

PEACE ON THE ROAD
First
October 11, 2004

This should be called “Peace NOT On The Road YET!” We went to the dealership of the motorhome today, Monday, to find out something like, “Where is our motorhome?” We got an answer that was not too bad, but not the answer we wanted. “It is still in Forest City, Iowa. It is getting the finishing touches, undercoating, today. Actually by now that may be completed. I should have gotten a call back by now, but I have not heard anything.” It was not too bad an answer. It was a whole lot better than, “They are going to start construction in a week.” Anyway a call was made and the coach was complete and getting its final inspection. It is scheduled to be started towards Colorado on Wednesday and should arrive by Thursday afternoon. If all goes as it was indicated it should, we should have possession on Saturday or at least by Monday.

Then the fun begins. I am sure it will be so much fun to get all our stuff out of the house and into the coach. I am sure that it will be fun to figure out where things should go. I expect that every box we think will work well in the coach will not fit. Every pot and pan will have to be bent just a quarter of an inch to fit through the door of the cabinet. Any power cord will be six inches too short to reach the plug. You get the picture. Actually I do not expect any physical problems, but I do expect some stressful times in loading.

PEACE ON THE ROAD (soon)

This is Friday evening and we are almost in a position to be on the road. We got a call from the dealer shortly after noon that the Vectra had just pulled into the lot. Of course we went right up to see it. As we got out of our truck it was being moved into a different location. Having never seen the paint scheme on anything except a very small picture it was great to look at it and say, "I like that look." The dealer unlocked the door and had us step into the great looking interior. It is everything we wanted. I will grant you that we do not really know what we want, and will not know until we had lived in it a while, we think it will do the trick.

There is still the dealer prep to be done. A lot of plastic coverings have to be removed, they are going to add certain necessary fluids, check the systems out, and do whatever else is necessary. Since we plan to tow a vehicle behind, we ordered the tow bar and the braking system for the towed vehicle that will operate from the Vectra itself. All this has to be done before we can accept delivery. That will be either Monday afternoon or Tuesday morning.

Then as I have said the fun of getting all our food, cooking and eating things, clothes, bedding, and all the other stuff starts. One thing that will be nice, is that it has an air compressor, for the air brakes of course. But I can use it to air up the tires on my bicycle. My garage air compressor is in New York. Doesn't it sound like I have been suffering?

I took some picture of the coach and am including three. These will have to serve as a teaser until I can get it where you can see it in person.
